Jomo Kenyatta 1898- 1978 Kenyan Statesman
On his return home, Kenyatta worked for Kenyan Independence. He headed the New Kenya Africa Union. He was arrested by the British and spent the years 1952-58 in jail. Four years later, the Kenyan African National Union -- headed by Kenyatta -- won the elections that followed Kenya's Independence. Kenyatta was President of Kenya until his death.
