On July 22, 1946, a bomb exploded in the King David Hotel -- the British military headquarters in Palestine. Ninety-one people were killed in the blast. Those that placed the bomb had called the hotel to warn the British, but their warning was not been taken seriously, and the hotel had not been evacuated. The bomb was placed by the Irgun.
