1944 11,000 Aircraft Take part in D-Day

Over 11,0000 aircraft took part in the D-Day attack across the channel. The major goal of the air support in the operation was to make it impossible for the Germans to bring reinforcements to the battlefield. The job included destroying all communication links such as bridges, rail terminals and other supply hubs. The Germans were forced to move supplies only at night.
