Mother Teresa 1910- 1997 Humanitarian
In her over 60 years of service to humanity, Mother Teresa brought world-wide attention to her work with the poor and dying in India. She established a new religious order, The Missionaries of Charity, whose members now number in the hundreds; working tirelessly to create hospitals, schools and orphanages in many countries. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1979. Upon her death in 1997, it was speculated that she would be elevated to sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church.
