Battle of Pea Ridge

The Battle of Pea Ridge took place in March 1862. It was fought in North West Arkansas. Major General Van Dorn commanded the Confederate troops. The Union commander was Major General Samuel Curtis. Van Dorn's forces were initiall successful in their attack on Federal lines. The Union troops, however, launched a successful counterattack that carried the day. The Union victory at Pea Ridge secured Missouri for the Union.
