March 11- 18 The week could be summarized as the week of the Republican counterattack. In a series of ads and speechs President Bush and the Republican party attacked Senator Kerry's positions on a number of issues. The center of the Republican attacks were Kerry's positions on National Defense. The attacks on Kerry were the earliest negative ads by a sitting President in history. They came months before any President has even directly mentioned his opponent.
