1864 Democratic Convention
Chicago Illinios

August 29 to 31, 1864

Nominated:George McClellan for President
Nominated: George H Pendelton of Ohio for Vice President
The Democratic convention took place as the tide of the war was finally turning in favor of the North. The Democrats passed a platform which was highly critical of Lincoln, it accused him of violating civil rights and attacked him for issueing the Emancipation Proclomation. It endorsed the idea of a negotiated peace with the south. Once it had passed the platform it nominated the failed but still popular General George McClellan for President.
