Nominated: Adlai Stevenson of New York for President

Nominated: John J Sparkman of Alabama for Vice President

President Truman, much to the relief of many Democrats decided that he did not want to run again. Senator Kefauver actively sought the nomination and entered the convention with significant support due to his primary victories. Truman however, opposed Kefauver and worked on Governor Stevenson of Illinois to accept the nomination. Once the convention opened Stevenson agreed to be nominated. On the first ballot Kefauver with led with 340 delegates with 273 for Stevenson and the rest scattered among favorite sons. By the third ballot Stevenson secured the nomination,
