1972 Democratic Convention
Miami, FL
July 10 to 13, 1972
Nominated: George McGovern of South Dakota for President
Nominated: Thomas Eagleton for Vice President
McGovern entered the convention with enough delegates to ensure his victory. A last minute movement to stop McGovern developed with Humphrey as its leader. The opponents concentrated on challenging the credentials of some of the delegations. When that failed McGovern went on to be nominated on the first vote.
